How do I go about re-enlisting from the Guard to Active Duty?

I am currently in the MI ARNG in my last year of contract. I want to go active for my next contract. I am having a very difficult time finding resources for this. Recruiters are unsure and not nearly as responsive for a prior service soldier. All of my web searches just tell me how to transfer to active duty, which is not what I want to do. I want to finish my contract and then reenlist active, in another MOS. Anyone had this experience and know how this works?

It's just a normal enlistment. The slowest part will be waiting for your NGB22 to arrive in the mail, which your recruiter will need for your packet. If the recruiter you're working with seems like they are lacking knowledge or information, go to the station commander. Chances are you are working with a detailed recruiter and not an actual 79R recruiter.

The army recruiter is in no rush because, a) you are 1 year out from ETS and b) they do not know what or if there will be a mission for prior service at that time.

OK, this one is simple. Wait till your contract is complete, take your NGB22, the Guard equivalent to the DD214, walk into the recruiting office and tell them you want to enlist in the Army as prior service.
Changing MOS as prior service can be a bit more difficult unless your current MOS is overstrength and you want to go to one that is understrength.

SPC (Join to see) - There are some very nice enlistment bonuses, the recruiter should be able to at least tell you what the current bonus numbers are and the current in/out call. You would normally get that information from your career counselor, but since you are switch sides, you will probably have to get that from the recruiter.

SPC (Join to see) - SFC Boyd is a current career counselor for the Active Army and has replied below. If you ask him, he can probably give you the current in/out and bonus schedules, or at least point you to who can. My experience from here is that he is a true professional and his advice is solid.

SPC (Join to see) - If your within a year of your ETS trying to get a conditional release is almost pointless, the process can move quickly, but often it's six months or more. Bonuses are not the same for Active Duty and ARNG, typically the Guard doesn't care as much about a particular MOS as they do about retaining a Soldier, Active Component bonuses are much more closely tied to MOS, you will also be subject to prior-service business rules (check out the link below).

CPT Lawrence Cable I am getting really excited about a 35P MOS. But I'm pretty sure my MOS, 25B, is understrength as they are offering large bonuses. Could I be blocked from reclassing? When you actually sign reenlistment papers, do you know exactly what MOS the contract is for?

I've seen active duty recruiters help guard guys with this in the past. Dont talk to the recruiters in the guard about leaving the guard. They have no incentive to help you.

I talked to an AD recruiter today. He gave me the same talk about form 368, which is for transferring your contract, which technically is not what I'm trying to do. When I said can we just talk about reclassing and incentives, etc. he said I needed to talk to MEPS career guidance councilor. Does that sound accurate?
