I am PCSing to Korea here shortly. I know most of the time it usually takes less than a day to get from the states to Korea so using the travel card isn’t authorized. I leave on a Saturday but will get stuck in Seattle on Sunday and report to Korea on Monday. Would that authorize me to use my travel card for food while stuck at the airport waiting for my flight?

You are authorized to use your GTC for all travel expenses. When you are on TDY you are not only entitled to use your GTC but supposed to.

You should talk to your DTS admin. I don’t see why you can’t get a hotel room for Sunday and meals. I believe the first and last days of traveling you get 3/4 of the daily meal rate. Make sure you detach yourself from DTS from the losing unit. The gaining unit can not arrive you for DTS if you fail to do so which may create a nut roll for you. Tell us what the DTS admin says.

Sure you can. The issue is that when you submit receipts for your voucher, you may or may not be reimbursed and may have to pay the bill for the food. But yes, you can use it for food during travel.

Ok thanks. I wasn’t sure. It will be just one meal so I’ll be able to pay it back when I get my pay later on.

SFC (Join to see) - Food is one of those things people are never sure about. Yes, you can use it for food....it's just a matter of reimbursement or not.
