Asking for a friend, is it possible for him to obtain a copy of his Chapter paperwork? Long story short our Chain of Command is infamous for giving soldiers Under
Other Than Honorable Conditions discharges for APFT failures. He's a little scared that the soldier might end it the same boat. He was 5 years of service and barely any (1 or 2) times he was late to formation and that's it as far as negative counseling goes. Also our Command isn't telling him anything about how far the process is, his expected discharge date or literally anything.
Thanks in advance for answering

Yes, it is possible to be provided copies of the Chapter paperwork. At the very minimum, there is a counseling stating why he is being chaptered and what chapter will be used. Also included, will be what Discharge the Commander recommends. Your friend will also be provided the opportunity to seek legal counsel in regards to the chapter. As for the process....the process takes as long as it takes. It needs to reach every single level in the Chain of Command to be reviewed by that level of Commander and their SJA representative to ensure the packet is complete and not missing anything. If your friend has not received any news, then it's not officially done yet. Has your friend asked the NCO Chain if they have a status update?

Rgr SFC, he's been hounding his Platoon Sergeant and is just getting a "who knows" response. 1SG is currently out so the next highest would be going to CSM...

SPC (Join to see) - If the "who knows" answer is being given, it's in the pipeline. Where in the pipeline, it's anyone's guess. Those that will know is the Commander. Perhaps, if your friend can have his Platoon Leader ask the Commander, he may get an answer that way. I would avoid going to the CSM unless absolutely necessary. Because, the first thing the CSM will ask is if this RFI has been put to the Commander.

I have never in my career seen a Chapter 13 (APFT Failure) be a other than honorable. That Soldier would have been chaptered out under a misconduct chapter. The only way to NOT get an honorable (General under honorable) is to have disciplinary infractions. The Soldier will get an opportunity to see his chapter after he is notified and sees Defense Counsel. Your boy is just freaking out way too much.
