According to MCRP 5-12D the MEU is task organized from the MEF and there is an Engineer Battalion in the MEF. It appears the Engineer Platoon is task organized from the EN BN. There are a lot of slice elements in the MEU under the MAGTF concept.

That was the pre re-organization Combat Engineer organization in the Army when I was still around. A Divisional Engineer Battalion supported a Combat Division, with a Company tasked to each maneuver Brigade, then each 12B Platoon was farmed out to the Battalion Task Forces. Under that organization, you had a Major that was the Brigade Engineer and the Co Commander coordinated the Brigade Engineers operations with the platoons. So as an Engineer PL, I was the Platoon Leader and the Task Force Engineer on the special staff of the Battalion Commander. The reorganization pushed that Battalion down a level, so instead of a Division, you now supported a Brigade. A Platoon per Battalion is not a lot of Engineer Support and I agree with the change, which oddly mirrors the level of Engineering assets in the old Soviet Army.

They're all attachments to the BLT (REIN). There are also attachments to the MEU. There is an Engr Plt in the MSSG (Now called CLB) as well as all other CSS elements. They are in GS to MEU unless otherwise task-organized or attached. BLT Engrs do more with Combat Engineering, and are sourced by the Combat Engr BN in the Division. MSSG Engrs do CSS stuff and are sourced from the Engr BN of the FSSG (now CLG). They go through the same school and could augment the BLT Engrs if needed. Years ago the FSSG was referred to as Force Troops.
