I heard that during the initial phase of 68V AIT trainees are not allowed to live with their family. Is this true?

Trainees would be assigned to a barracks whether their family has on or off base housing.

If you are a prior service/re-classing you are authorized a barracks room upon arrival. If you have dependents listed on your orders you are authorized to obtain living quarters (usually off post), for your dependents and receive BAH. In my case, I was not allowed to keep my barracks room after the initial two weeks because the barracks were at full capacity. Usually your orders dictate whether you are authorized a move with or without dependents, you just have to ensure that they are included on your orders before they are cut.

This was very helpful. Do you have any other tips you could share on in-processing, settling travel vouchers when arriving still on Leave status, your thoughts on housing, and the daily rhythm of school?

The first part of the training is TDY so your family isn't allowed to accompany you to JBSA with you unless your second phase is at JBSA

Only authorized phase 2 site is BAMC (JBSA), everyone of my classmates including myself who had a family brought their family.
