Taking into account that the previous physical standards were incredibly low (for both men and women), there's no doubt that the ACFT will have a tremendous impact on those who were considered average or barely met the minimum. Both men and women have failed but with the raw strength events, women will of course struggle a bit more. As Chief already mentioned, these numbers will decrease as time goes on. Men and women will be forced to reach a higher level of fitness or will be forced out of the military. Everything will resolve itself and we will be left with higher quality Soldiers.

Except the Army just said that it will take five more years at least to finalize ACFT standards...so we'll see what happens. I predict the leg tuck disappears. The run should go away because it's pointless.

I think it should be the deadlift, SDC and I suppose aerobic event (run or alternates) if they really need one. That should be the test.

I don't think the ACFT is going to provide "higher quality" soldiers...

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff Yes I’m aware of the five year expectation. The leg tuck should absolutely not go away as it promotes/ensures all service members have appropriate upper body and core strength. Someone could deadlift 400lbs and still struggle to do a rope climb. Aerobic endurance will always be important. I believe the distance should be reduced to a mile and a half but not eliminated all together. For the most part the ACFT events were selected appropriately to maximize combat physical readiness. I’m eager to see what will be set in stone.

It is the leg tuck in particular i believe, and it’s because the training for it focuses on abdominals when the focus should be back on biceps to help with the pull
