As an NROTC Midshipmen about to commission in roughly two months, what advice do you have for a newly minted 2nd Lt?

Best advice I can give you is to listen to your NCO's and gain knowledge from them. If they are worth their strips they will keep you out of trouble and provide mentorship.

also, know how your enlisted men do their jobs. you'll gain their respect and a skill at the same time.

Take care of your Marines. Learn from everyone, especially your enlisted Marines. Lead from the front. Become a master of three basics in the field - Move (Day/night, foot/mounted/air), Shoot (individual, crew, and supporting fires) and communicate. That should keep you busy. Train every day and prepare you Marines for combat.

Transfer to the Army.
Seriously, listen to your senior NCO's, their job is to train you, not the other way around. ROTC did not give you everything you need to be a successful officer. Continue to ask what more can I do.

Not exactly how I stumbled on your post, but since it’s been 3 years and you’re now a 1LT, what advice would you give to your old MIDN self who posted this? What advice do you have for the MIdshipman who posted this question? Just a little flip on the question and a retrospective introspective.
