U.S. Marines and South Vietnamese forces launch Operation Pirahna on the Batangan Peninsula, 23 miles south of the Marine base at Chu Lai. This was a follow-up to Operation Starlight, which had been conducted in August. During the course of the operation, the Allied forces stormed a stronghold of the Viet Cong 1st Regiment, claiming 200 enemy dead after intense fighting.

The New York Times reported that ex-Vice President Richard Nixon said at a press conference that 125,000 American troops and an expanded bombing campaign would be sufficient to achieve victory in South Vietnam.

In 1968 there were 536,100 American troops in South Vietnam.

The Greek Navy's overwhelming defeat of the Persians at the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC.

The defeat of the Spanish Armada by Sir Francis Drake and the British Navy in 1588.

Lord Nelson's victory over the combined French and Spanish Fleets at Trafalgar in 1805.

Compe DeGrasse' French Fleet victory over Thomas Gate's British Fleet in the Battle of the Virginia Cape, September 1781 during the American Revolution that for all intents and purposes was the death nell for Corwallis at Yorktown.

Dewey's victory over the Spanish fleet in Minilla Bay during the Spanish American War in 1898 was the emergence of the United States Navy as a one of the worlds eminent sea powers.

The Battle of Jutland between Germany and Britian during WWI, June 1916.

The Battle of Midway, June 1942 was a devastating defeat for the Japanese that changed the entire tempo of the war in the Pacific.
