Currently came down on orders to the Old Guard for next year. Any insight as an 11C? What should I expect?

You’ll probably be going to PSB (Presidential Salute Battery) as an 11C. You'll do 3 or so weeks of ROP, (Regimental Orientation Program *pronounced rope*) which will essentially cover the basics of D&C in the Old Guard then you’re going to have to learn whatever it is PSB does when you get there. If you end up in one of the companies somehow then you’ll learn how they do things in which ever platoon you’re assigned too. 1st being Escort, 2nd is Caskets, and 3rd is Firing Party. You’ll get an initial issue so you won’t have to buy anything for the most part. You’ll also have the opportunity to go to specialty platoons or assignments like
- The Tomb of the Unknowns
- Caisson Platoon
- Pentagon Tour Guide
- Drill Team
- Voice of the Old Guard
- Continental Color Guard
Overall the area is pretty nice, lots of stuff to do. There’s gonna be a bit of a learning curve, just don’t feel like you can’t learn from the lower enlisted. Unlike some other assignments a lot of the younger guys have been doing this stuff for years, don’t be afraid to ask a high speed SPC or PFC how things work.

SSG Bill McCoy
Well stated and informative. I was stationed (detached from Walter Reed) at the health clinic there in the ambulance section before I became an MP. We were on-site (out of view) for a lot of the Old Guard stuff and I was/am still always impressed by the soldiers in the Old Guard. They are exceptionally STRACK and I NEVER saw an unprofessional act by any of them.

SGT (Join to see)
SGT (Join to see) - I had a squad leader who was only in three units - Rangers, Old Guard, And Charlie 3/19 24th Infantry Division Rapid Deployment Force. He was a CSM in the Old Guard. He was one squared away individual.

As an 11C, I believe you’ll be assigned to the PSB (Presidential Salute Battery)don’t quote me but every 11C, in the Old Guard, I’ve ever knew was assigned to this unit.
