On a trawler, cruising the Caribbean, checking out all the beaches and bars.
Take 6 months and go through the Panama Canal, up the west coast of Central America, US & Canada to Alaska.
Take another 6 months and make the great loop (east coast to Great Lakes, Mississippi River and back to Gulf of Mexico.

I think everyone is familiar with employment after military retirement comes down to three things: location, job, and income. Choosing location as priority one is probably the hardest to offset perks in the other two. A balance would be best if you're not willing to sacrifice at least one of them.
