What are the best options for Active Duty trying to attend a funeral?

One of my best friends I went to basic with was just recently KIA and I'm trying to get out to his funeral. From talking with my CO it looks like I should be all set to be approved to go based on our training cycle currently. What are some of the best options to go about this maybe I'm unaware of? (i.e. trying to get cheaper flights mainly or any aids to help make it happen) I'll pay the money regardless to make it out there for his wife and family but it would be helpful to not have to spend 1k dollars all because I'm just unaware of better options besides just booking an outright flight. Any Ideas?

You could ask about military flights already going there. You could request to be the one to accompany him back from overseas. You could search for cheap flights online. Or start calling airlines and see what they can do for a Soldier who is going to a KIA funeral.

When is been in, I'd been allowed a week of permissive TDY once, hopping flights both ways, as well as staying in VOQs...purely as a thought, you might ask about that, if need be also ask the chaplains by you if they could also help ask, maybe, just an idea, obv...extremely sorry for the loss also, certainly, as well....

I mean, for me, it was a conference I'd wanted to go to, I'd certainly think this'd be way more justified, seemingly, you know?
