I have read several articles suggesting Tinnitus is a leading factor in veteran suicide, but there does not seem to be any credible research to support that theory. How much does your Tinnitus affect your daily life?

Silence has a constant sound like a cymbal, I hear words incorrectly and miss parts of conversations, don't try and talk to me if there is background noise and I'm not looking at you because what you say won't be what I think you said.
So it effects my life daily 24 / 7. I'm used to it so it's not driving me batty , mildly annoying, sometimes embarrassing and occasionally comical but not making me want to suck start my .45..

Man this sounds like me. I have hearing aids and they do help but they also annoy the crap out of me. They made background noise much louder. Like the AC blower in the car. I can't stand to go any place that has an echo. I have learned to read lips. My wife says I talk way to loud too. I can't tell, sounds fine to me. Maybe I just have a big mouth! You should check out the hearing aids. I have to go now the phone is ringing (LOL). Good Luck.

SSgt Joseph Baptist - Damn, I had shingles in one of the normal areas and that was miserable enough. I'm one that should be following my own advice, but there have been some major improvements in recent years, you may want to see a different doctor to see if they have a better solution.

CSM Richard StCyr - Since this one popped up again, I finally broke down an got hearing aids. The two years of covid masking and barriers made me feel like I was walking around with a box on my head. I've wore them for less than a year, but I don't see how I functioned without them now that my brain has gotten back to interpreting all the sounds I couldn't hear. Suck it up and get some, they will change your life.

CSM Richard StCyr - Just a footnote, my hearing loss was substantial enough that it rated 40% on the VA's hearing matrix, then the rating for Tinnitus (max out at 10% on Tinnitus, no quantitative way to test it). What it really means is that my hearing sucked more than I realized.
I still get the constant static, but I can hear birds chirping again.
