Im an 11b with a 4year 19week contract (failed rasp). Got sent to jrtc and have been here abt 18 months. Any way to switch units in 1st contract? Or do I have to stay here for a miserable 4 and a half years?

Most duty assignment you have to be assigned for 36 months before you can PCS. Branch probably won’t consider moving you until you have at least 30 months on station. If you are assigned to a fenced Brigade, you will have to get released from your command before branch will even consider moving you.

It doesn't hurt to call branch. Just google, "11B Branch Manager HRC" and do some digging on there for your rank manager. Give em' a call and have some tact... "Good morning I am _________. I am on my first enlistment with about 18 months on station so far. I wanted to enquire about the possibility of requesting a new assignment. Do you have any recommendations for me?
With any luck, they will tell you exactly when to call back or at least give you a rough estimate, "Sorry cant help you till you have XX months on station. Call back then" etc... you get the point. No one is going to look after your career better than you. You just have to know which hills are worth dying on.

You're going to be there for a while. Down the road you can reenlist to leave, but if you plan on ETSing you'll ETS from there. You can always go back to RASP or go to SFAS as well.
