What happens to a Army National Guard Split op if he or she can not ship to AIT? I was in a motorcycle accident and don’t think I will be able to ship. Will I get discharged?

When I was on split op I had broken my ankle in the middle of April and was due to ship the end of June. My doctor wrote a note stating that I was still recovering and I took that with me to MEPS on the day I was due to ship. MEPS pushed my ship date back six weeks.

It should depend on the severity of your injuries and if the Army still thinks you are capable of serving, but if you can still serve, they should just reschedule your AIT phase. I would contact my recruiter, it probably means another trip to MEPS for a medical evaluation.

Sorry, just realized that you are already assigned a unit since you are National Guard. If you haven't let your unit commander know you have been injured, you need to do that right away. Make sure that they are accounting for you during drill as excused absence or you will be considered AWOL. I would sit down with my first line supervisor, your squad or section leader, and get the training NCO/Admin Sgt. to help get your paperwork straight.
