Reservist doing BA with NG

When I was with the 104th Div (tng) in Washington, many times I RST with NG unit in Montana due to my work. It was no big deal. Contact the UA, get their drill dates. Contact your UA and let him know who and where. A DA-1380 will need to be filled out by both units and submitted to your UA to get paid. Have done this many many times.

Ma'am. Don't know if you've gotten your answer yet, but yes you can drill with a NG unit. Coordination needs to be made with the FTM at each unit so you get accounted for and paid properly. Also as long as your CO approves you're good to go. I've dealt with this before and it's not a big deal. I've had Reservist drill with us and also some of my Soldiers drill with a Res unit. More often than not all that is required is a 1 page form (not in my office so I don't know what it is off the top of my head).

It is ultimately up to the Commander's discretion what you do and where as they are accountable for the training conducted and not conducted. Although, you may RST with the NG unit down the road; the reserve and guard are two different animals with different way of doing things despite us wearing the same uniform.

The regulations concerned are AR 140-10, and AR 140-1 para 3-12. You may wish to look at para 3-8 of 140-10.

This situation is not uncommon where Soldiers and Officers with unique MOS and branch are assigned to remote duty locations. You may be eligible for IDT travel pay, and LIK at your assigned unit when you go to your assigned location for drill. I recommend speaking to your career counselor about seeing what other opportunities are out there within reasonable commuting distance as I suspect at some point you will be required to attend drill at your assigned unit.
