Is it to prepare a soldier for ranger school or to see if they really want to go to ranger school??

As I understand it, PRC is a little both and a lot of assessing your desire and drive. There is no army course that has ever been developed that can’t be mastered with the right attitude and good physical fitness. The only thing needed is drive and a sense of humor. If you keep your sense of humor you can get through anything. It’s always about the attitude. Ability helps but attitude is what gets you through anything. Just my opinion.

You're going to be tired, you're going to be hungry, and you're going to be sore. But it is a good gut check before getting sent to the real thing.

Most Ranger school failures are from the first phase, especially RAP week. Go to the ARTB website and you can see all the events you will conduct. You're chances of passing the first phase are much, much higher if you go to SURT first. Bragg SURT had one of the highest success rates at Ranger School a few years ago, just below Regiments.
