Are you guys tired of movies about Vets with PTSD or Depression or would you still be interested in watching them?

I appreciate your candor. On the upside, I'm just an 11B1P in Seattle spending my own money making a short film that I hope is entertaining, impactful and brings awareness.

As a retired Therapist, I was unable to diagnose myself with this condition and I was frustrated because I didn’t understand why I was experiencing verbal outbursts and signs of depression. At least 10 VA Psychiatrists never mentioned or successfully diagnosed my conditions. After 16 years with the Fayetteville VAMC, I relocated and was seen at the Durham VAMC. An excellent Psychiatrist was successful in her diagnosis of PTSD, MST, and Clinical Depression. Once properly diagnosed, I was able to begin receiving proper treatment for my Actual Conditions. This allowed me to to treat my conditions and identify my ‘triggers ‘. I was delighted to know I was not crazy or losing my mind!John (Jack ) Kaufhold

I draw AF retired check as a SSGT over 14. I was retired before on TDRL which I know I don’t have to explain.. I was back in until ‘85. In fall of ‘84 I was at work and returning to the kitchen, a Civ. Kitchen worker knocked over a bucket of greasy soapy water accidentally. It happened so fast and I didn’t have time to protect my head. I wdd Ed by down and banged my head on the curb around the pit the kettles were in. First I went to base hospital then air evacced to Walter Reed/Bethesda .(what it is now) while there, I was being taken back to my room from a MRI. On the way I had a stroke, mild but enough to retire me. While on retirement The AF to save me a long ride or a short flight to Wright-Pat hosp. They worked it out with VA for me to use them. VA wanted me to relinquish my retired card and take their retirement. No thanks ! If I got upset with them I could go back to Military Hospital. I had service connection but it seemed I was shuttled to the side like a VA pensioned Vet.. I talked to the Admin.. went straight to him, skipping chain of command like I was taught. He hadn’t known of course((so he said).. anyway things got better for a while. Then VA wanted me to move to A2(Ann Arbor) to be closer. In case I had a episode like another stroke and had to go to a local hospital, they’ll take me but once they got me they don’t want to release me until they got a check in their grubby hands. And if had to come from the AF.. it was a clusterflop where that was concerned.. I had a few times I got p.o.’d and went to W-P AFB. I had my bud drive my truck.. the clerk looked and found I was temp assigned to the VA Hosp. He said I had to go back up north.. I showed him a clause and he signed me in and I was able to get a room at billeting (so many rooms for hoptel) for my driver.. he ended up staying that night .. meanwhile A2 VAMC has a hissy fit over me going to W-P and they told me make up my mind... in case youse guys forgot, I do have a TBI, 2 in fact, so quit F-ing with me ok? Thank you ! I was out the next day at 3 and on my way home.. went back to A2 VA and shocked, I was getting VIP treatment..,.My AF
People called VA peeps in D. C. and gave them heck.. whatever was said, did the trick.. VA wanted that AF check the AF paid them to take care of me.. I still had the right Togo to W-P AFB, Haven’t had to though.

I have discovered the Air Force takes much better care of their SM’s and families than the Army I saw this first-hand when I left Germany. There was an AF pregnant spouse with her two yo on the same flight as me and my husband and 23 month old daughter. When we landed in Charlestown SC , there were two Air Force TSgt to meet her, get her luggage, and drive her to the Air Force Base. There was no one to meet me when I arrived in Germany and my parents were the only ones who met us in Charleston and they rented us a car to get us to Ft Jackson where I was officially discharged and paid my severance pay. The VA can be hateful until you get everyone to assist you. I have NEVER been treated by the top people in Durham the way I was treated today!!! I am going to get ALL my notes together and file Congressional investigations and report the behavior to VISN on Monday. They WILL apologize to me, pay me mileage and evening meal and Chief of Travel IS going to be reprimanded( I would prefer his being fired) for the disgusting way he treats Veterans!!! Sorry to hear of your TBI’s. I studied that condition in Grad School and worked a few cases. Very difficult for patient and providers to treat effectively.
