What is 5th Armored BDE at Fort Bliss like? What unit will I most likely be going to, and what can I expect for my duty within that unit?

I am a 19D4O- Cav Scout with an 8 Identifyer (Instructor/Writer). Heading to 5th AR BDE this year. What can I expect as there are no information to research via Social Media aside from Facebook. What I'm looking for is what unit will I be most likely going to and what can I expect for my duty within that unit?

With your MOS you are most likely going to 3-362 AR or HHC 5th AR.
5th AR is comprised of 10 BNs responsible for the pre and post-mob training for Guard and Reserve units going through Bliss to deploy.
You could end up anywhere, from working in the BN or BDE S3 on main post, or working in a training or validation cell out at Mcgregor, like an OC/T.
If you are still at 3-1 ABCT, you could just drive over and ask around, an E7 in their BDE S1 probably knows exactly where you are going.

Thank you, SGM. I'm still in 3rd BDE but we're deployed right now. I thought about just driving there when I get back. SGM, I have a question: I understand it is an AC/RC assignment. Does this OC/T have the same "pull/strength" for advancement as the OC/Ts at Irwin? Thank you.

Deployed again? 3-1 just got back in NOV 2017. Sorry.
There are reservists there working there, some individual mob augmentees, sometimes a whole company "deployed" to Bliss to augment.
I couldn't tell you if advancement is the same as NTC, I only spent a few weeks with them and most of that seemed like I was running back and forth between the MRX and the validation cell, and getting across post to get on SIPR.
Some of the guys do have to travel out to visit the units prior to mob, and join them on their PDSS for the deployment, (that helps to tailor the MRX to the actual mission they will RIP into), but at least this job will be a break from actual deployments.

I was stationed at bliss twice. Basic and then as a sp/5, that is where I made SSG before being sent to south Korea in 1970. I loved el paso. But later in life when as a cw3 in ansbach Germany my group commander Donald infante called me and asked me to go back with him to bliss again. He commanded bliss as a two star. I declined. I called my assignment officer and told him I have 16 years of service send me anywhere that does not begin with F. So he sent me to Cameron station usarec.

You got lucky. Sad part for me, I am already stationed at Fort Bliss but I'm just moving to a different brigade. I'll be at Bliss longer than anticipated.
