I’m on a lower extremity profile (hips, knees and ankles) and due for a PT test next month. My PCM has authorized the swim as my cardio alternate, but I’m concerned that since I will have only been on profile for roughly 40 days that my unit will require me to take the standard APFT with a run. I was told I’m awaiting command approval to take the PT test since my profile is temporary. Never heard of this before, so can anyone give me some guidance on this?

If you are on an active temporary profile that states you cannot do the run, but must swim instead, they cannot make you do the run. If needed, you can get the PCM involved.

Forewarning, the swim is not easy.

So I’ve been warned. I believe calculated out it’s roughly 800 meters

Update: Had a meeting with my CMDR today. Her ruling was until I’ve been on profile for 90 days or my profile becomes P2, I’m not taking a PT test. Even then, she wants a diagnostic before I take a record.

Quick update: I have an appointment with my CMDR on Tuesday to discuss my profile. Since my PCM has authorized me to take the PT test, theoretically this should just be a meeting to verify my profile and schedule a day for me to take the swim alternate.
