I am PCSing from Korea to Fort Hood. I received a copy of my orders and it says dependents aren't authorized. That concerns me because of the joint custody I have of my kids. I spoke to some senior NCOs at my unit and they are stating that its just for travel and I don't have to worry about it. My concern is that my children won't be command sponsored at Fort Hood and that I will no longer receive BHA to pay for the house I have back there any more. Has anyone ever dealt with this and is there any truth behind what I am being told?

If you do not have custody of your children 51% of the time, then you are not authorize BAH with dependent. If you have court ordered child support then you’ll receive BAH diff. Also, if you were receiving BAH for your children, family separation and are not married while you were in Korea and you are not the primary custodial parent, you will end up with a debt. If you don’t have the documentation stating you are the custodial parent, again you will have a debt.
Also, go to your DEERS office to see if they have your dependents listed, because your orders shouldn’t say dependents not authorized, it should either say Dependents yes or the name of your dependents listed on your orders and the zip code of where they are located. This is not an S1 issue, this is a DEERS and reassignments issue. If your dependents are listed in your DEERS, reassignments will have to amend your orders. I hope this helps. Good luck to you...

What she said. Plus the "dependents not authorized" on your orders only means that dependents are not covered by transportation for your PCS move from Korea to Hood.

SGM (Join to see) unless the dependents are already at fort hood, they would need orders to accompany him...

SSG,
S1 here has no idea, I had asked them and they told me that I "should" be fine and that if not I can always take care of the issue at Fort Hood.

SGT (Join to see) - Wow. Two other options is to contact HRC and/or FT Hood. Possibly one of them has a better answer.

When you get to Fort Hood you should be able to take care of it when you in process. It will depend on how much custody you actually have with your kids. I ran in the same issue myself after I got my divorce. They wanted to take away all my BAH and put me in the Barracks. I got lucky though. Hope it works out. SGT (Join to see)

You need to have your kids added before you leave Korea. You will have a huge paperwork drill once you arrive at Ft Hood if you dont.
