With my EFMP screening being delayed, should I ask my commander to move my report date 30 days later?

I'm in school till 25Feb19 and in 05DEC18 got projections to Germany with report date of 10MAR19. MY dependent's are out of the country till 20JAN19. I honestly, didn't know that they would have to go through EFMP screening even though they're not enrolled. I was told EFMP screening can take up to 6 weeks, and then I have to ask for command sponsorship along with transportation and other PCS related issues. Most likely I will miss my report date.
Should I ask my commander to move my report date 30 days later? Should I notify my gaining unit about it?

For those who say PCS and get command sponsorship after you arrive: What happens if the family member can't be accommodated?

MSG (Anonymous) which is what telling the Soldier to report and fix it there is. My original point. Thanks, for making it.

You might be going to Germany by yourself and then your family will follow once they are Command Sponsored and EFPM issue worked out. I would be surprised if they adjusted your report date. Also - this isn’t out of the ordinary...all kinds of folks travel ahead of their families until they can get Command sponsorship.

Your commander can't do anything. If this is a school that was arranged through retention and it's a follow on assignment your career counselor can request a deferment for you. If the assignment was through your branch manager you can request a deferment through S1, abut expect to PCS without them. You can still get them command sponsored once you are in Germany.

SFC (Join to see) well that must have changed. I had it happen tons set of my PCS orders. May have been submitted to HRC after the CO recommended approval but most branch managers aren’t complete jerks. They may be able to accommodate the SM. Can’t hurt to try.

SSG Lyle O'Rorke that's my point actually. The Commander doesn't approve them, they simply sign the 4187 recommending for or against. HRC is the approval authority and can easily choose against the commander's recommendation. In fact, for deferments the commander is just one signature required all the way to the O6 commander prior to being sent to HRC.

SFC (Join to see) well yeah. The in my case the O6 was my direct boss so was not hard to get approved by him.
