America: democratic facade with socialist underbelly

It seems like every country we've been at war with, we try to set up some sort of Presidential democracy...or we are spreading Americanism. It will work if we maintain a military and political presence and pour in enough money...although I'm not sure our pockets are deep enough for the entire Middle East. Not sure democracy will work where religion and government are inextricably combined and the population is divided into 3 major factions (or more). There will be a group that is under-represented, and always a group that is over-represented. Some group always gets persecuted. For the US, for many years, it was the Blacks. Every nation has a group that suffers.
Meanwhile back in the US: we are slowly evolving into a Government dependent nation, very similar to a socialist regime. Our capitalist spirit still exists, but the division between the very rich and the very poor, widens. The reaches of our government get farther. Soon it will be impossible to see the division, the lines will blur and there will be lots of gray. So, we preach democracy and freedom all the while give up our freedoms and start voting for social programs that mimic socialism, isn't it ironic that we have swayed from the ideals that have made this country great...now with $18 Trillion deficit and climbing, our government seeks to not only burden our population with a debt that will take several generations to pay down, (with a fiscal responsible administration), it isn't likely our children's children will ever know a debt free nation. The tax burden will continue to grow, the government programs will expand and we will all be indentured servants. We may have everything provided, but will pay 50% in taxes. When did we let our nation take this path? Can we take it back to the way it was? Once you give...you cannot take away.
