Ok. I completed 6 years with the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged back in 2015. Im 26 now, will be 27 in Nov, and was curious if i am able to go active army with the option 40 contract under 21b. I know it sounds corny cause everyone in the world wants to be a sapper ranger, but im not a little kid just starting out. Ive experienced life and am past all that childish inmature mentality stage of my low 20's. Im stronger, faster, and smarter now than what i was back then, and will be going in with a way better mindset. Age wont be a factor and i didnt have any restrictions upon discharge. Im in perfect health medically so that wont be an issue either. I just want to know if its possible, and if so how hard is it going to be to get the contract. Thanks for the answers in advance.

Some questions you will never know the answer to until you sit down with the Guidance Counselor at MEPPS. The Army says there are only about 150 slots for the Ranger Regiment each month for Infantrymen so I imagine there are way less for Combat Engineers. Processing tip: If you get on the floor later in the month and the Recruiting Command is hustling to make their goal they are more likely to go the extra mile and open up a closed job for you. Best of Luck!

Currently, most prior service are only being offered 18X if they don’t want their previously qualified MOS.

There was a man in my RASP class who had been trying to get back in with a 40 Option since 2001 or so. This was 2015. So, I imagine you can do it too, but it might take a while. I believe they take 21Bs, but you'd have to ask a Recruiter.
Realize that if you do get in, they'll want you to get your Ranger Tab before the Sapper one. Also, you might not be doing your actual job. They might stick you in a shop.

SPC Stephen Smith - maybe they've gotten more used to have Combat Engineers around now. I think it was pretty new at the time, for Batt.
