Quick question. I go on IRR in March 2020, my unit is being evaluated next AT for a 2020 deployment. What does that look like for me since I'm supposed to "be done" in March unless I voluntarily extend my contract? 2020 would be my sixth year.

You'll go to the AT and be evaluated and then separate when it's time. You'll be eligible for IRR call, but that doesn't mean you will get called, and if you are there's no guarantee it will be with your current unit or to augment someone else.

You have a total 8 year contract. Read the fine print. If I were in your shoes with current events I'd feel safer serving in a unit with people I knew better than taking my chances on a call up from IRR

What is it that YOU want to do? IRR is coming because you chose that route prior to your EOS, or you're doing nothing to stop it from taking place. Are you in or out?

I'm getting into law enforcement so I'm more wanting to get out. I haven't had a chance to talk to retention yet so I'm wanting to be prepared before I do. My unit likes to screw everyone over for numbers.

SPC (Join to see) Well, Cody, law enforcement is a good career (it was my other one, besides military). But, it is a hugely important decision to make. This isn't like going to work at a hardware store. It's a dangerous 24/7 job. It sucks for family members. Back to Army. Try to talk with your Top or SMaj. Seek their earnest advice. I can only hope they are approachable and not part of your command issues.
