Hello,
My question is more geared towards what customs and courtesies AF Enlisted are supposed to render to members of JROTC or ROTC.
Little back story I guess. Recently I was online when (I'm not sure why) an individual claiming to be a Midshipmen for NROTC contacts me. I had commented on a thread regarding Air Force dress which was were I guess he found me. Anyways after he pieced together that I was Enlisted he tried to get me to address him as "Sir". I stopped talking with this individual just because him contacting me in the first place was strange. However this interaction left a question in my head about what specific customs and courtesies are Enlisted Airmen supposed to render to JROTC or ROTC Cadets? Is there a specific AFI for this? The only thing I could find related to this was AFI 34-1201, but I couldn't find anything specific to this situation. The closest thing I could find was an Army Regulation AR 600-25. In any case thank you for your time!
(I apologies for any errors in this I was never in JROTC or ROTC so I am unfamiliar with its structure.)

A1C (Join to see) There are many posts on RP regarding treatment and recognization of ‘Cadet types’. They are not yet commissioned officers and are not treated as such.

Treat them with respect, someday they will be commissioned and perhaps your supervisor

JROTC cadets are kids... Active military owes them nothing... Treat them like kids. As for ROTC, the college kids, it depended on how we felt about them. I'm sure that they still call them shadow LTs and that was pretty much how we treated them. I can't remember if we were actually supposed to salute but if we liked them enough we did. In all reality, they are glorified PVTs...

A1C (Join to see) - Beyond basic common courtesy of one adult to another, I am not aware of any requirement to address cadets (except for service academy) in a particular way. Good manners and professionalism will cover any proprieties needed. Unless his message originated from a *.mil or *.edu account, all you have is assertion he is a ROTC cadet. For all you know, he could have been booted from basic training for failure to meet standards.
