Are you involved in community Outreach at your current duty station?

I believe that as soldiers we shouldn't invite or ask to be involved with the community around us. It is profitable not only at the personal level, but also to the Army collectivity. Have you ever thought how just 1 hour of your time can bring a tremendous change in somebody else life outside the military community?
I felt like I accomplished something lately when we went to spend some times before thanksgivings with some foster kids. Our interactions with them brought smile on their faces and they were so grateful and felt so special that we came to visit them. The event was worth it, and I didn't feel like I wasted my time. Do you have a community Outreach representative in your unit?

Kudos to you for volunteering your time to help others. I've volunteered in the past, but its been an awful long time. I've never seen a community outreach representative at the local unit level--is that a common additional duty now days?

As far as building a strong esprit-de-corps in the unit is concerned, community outreach has been determined as one of the tools to bring soldiers together. It is more something that depends on the discretion of the leadership of the unit.
