I want honest opinions about President Trump's recent promises to Kim Jong Un that we would cease all US/ROK joint training and statement to the American people that we will save a lot of money by not having bombers fly from Guam to the Korean Peninsula for training missions. Is that the sort of thing you expect from a strong POTUS?

Let's see. We stopped a joint military exercise and what did we get in return: A promise to destroy nuclear production and testing facilities (and we've seen evidence of some compliance in the destruction of at least one testing facility); promise to normalize North/South Korea relations (and we've seen compliance in leaders from both nations meeting to arrange family reunions across the DMZ); and promises of repatriation of remains of American GI's killed in the Korean War (and we've seen compliance in the return of the first 100 caskets). Honestly, what has any other American leader done in this regard since 1952 when the cease fire went into effect? Worse than nothing. President Clinton gave the North Koreans nuclear reactors that greatly assisted their development of nuclear weapons. Honestly, I don't know about "strong" but effective suits me just fine.

LTC Eugene Chu That's perplexing. A photo of a casket being exchanged at the border from North Korean to American service men was published. Practice?

CPT Jack Durish - Story from less than a week ago. US did send coffins to North Korea, but they have yet to return with remains of our fallen.

We did not get "A promise to destroy nuclear production and testing facilities." All we got was an agreement to "work toward the denuclearization of Korea.

He is not even doing that:

Gotta disagree with you, Capt. 1. That test facility was destroyed because it was no longer needed(Kim met his goals for testing) and all known intel indicate it was damaged and no longer usable after his last test. 2. 'Normalizing' relations til Kim gets what he wants is part of his MO. All the 'feel goods' and 'warm fuzzies' are good PR and take advantage of the SK President desire to normalize. 3. Whose bodies are in those caskets? Just because that's what Kim says doesn't mean it is. Nothing has been verified yet. Who was it said, Trust, but verify? With Kim you verify and don't trust. Bottom line...What does Kim really want?

As compared to what? Exchanging terrorist and pallets of money? Not really concerned with the how, I'm concerned with the what...what will be the end result. Time will tell.

I am concerned that two idiots(Kim and Trump) will get mad one day and in a tantrum try to destroy the other and US with it. I trust NONE of what is happening UNTIL verified. Neither know how to treat others (one is a mass murderer-Kim; the other is a manchild who puts us in danger and goes golfing at his resorts and makes money and cons Americans, example Trump University AND grabs women because he is wealthy and thinks he can get away with it). Both need to be taken out of office and someone MATURE put in place so that diplomacy AND leadership WILL work.

PFC Pamala (Hall) Foster - Have you turned on a TV or fired up the internet recently? We are witnessing a unbelievable turn of events on the Korean peninsula. Nothing permanent yet but we are definitely moving in the right direction.

CMSgt (Join to see) - We are going in the right direction-it took YEARS of work and I am afraid that they will get into a 'fit' and push that button. Trump was in office when this occurred. Just hope it is genuine and NOT a ploy CMSgt Parrish. Both men know how to play games and that history worries me in more than one way.

I am skeptical as well but encouraged by recent events. I certainly think were are in a better place today than were were yesterday. Time will tell.

I was a planner and evaluator for joint and combined exercises in ROK. I focused on the logistics and transportation side of the exercise, but sat in all of the plenary meetings with the ROK military planning the entire spring and fall exercises.

This was an easy give away because the exercises won't cease until this fall. Current exercises will continue. Also the exercises will restart if DPRK doesn't move ahead with its promise to "denuclearize". The money saved won't really be a significant percent of the DOD budget, but may be a significant percent of the Joint and Service Exercise Budgets. It's important to note that local training of US forces both alone and with their ROK counterparts has not been terminated. In many cases it's this tactical unit level training that builds the skills and respect that holds the alliance together.
