My son dreamed of being a Marine, but a misdiagnosis of BiPolar is preventing his dream. It's documented he does not have it.

We supplied BUMED with all his medical records include a revaluation that RULED OUT Bipolar. How do we get a BUMED doctor to actually look at the records, they have a cardiologist denying him.

How old is he? If they're refusing now: try again later. I was delayed 3 months or so due to my epilepsy history, but got cleared once they proved chapter and verse through multiple sources that I was clean. Have the recruiting command do what they can. Trust me on this: especially if he's looking into a highly-sought-after MOS those recruiters will fight MEPS tooth and nail to get him in. Basically: communicate and follow up constantly.

He is now 19, he was suppose to ship out almost a year ago. He does check in regularly but it doesn’t seem to get him anywhere.

Where can we get help. We have asked for specific reasons and the response is always, Bipolar. He shouldn't be denied for something he doesn't have. Where can we get help?

Congressional interest can help if you have a good Rep. and it is done in a courteous manner. Rules are rules though and MEPs has a thorough process. They will usually cite any notes from a certified clinician by request. BUMED is at the top, so if it's elevated to there without any benefit you may need help. Be prepared to accept the answer and move on.

We have spoken to our Congressmen and he is going to "make some calls".
