There are some good comments in here; a direct commission into the Medical Service Corps through the AMEDD recruiters is your route. Call tr numbers turn you below. Even if you had contracted try an assess you. Also, there are loan repayment option through them as well, but I concur with the thought of being enlisted first. You will likely still have to go to AIT, but will allow you to make connections and see the process that produces the Soldiers that may some day work for you. I would set a goal of making SGT before switching over. Feel free to send me a PM and I would be happy to help mentor you through the process.

If I may, have you considered one of the Army nursing programs or other routes? With a masters degree I predict a lot of frustrations for you because of who you work for.

I would like to use my degrees in mental health. What are some of the common frustrations?

Your knowledge and credentials will never win a game of rock, paper, rank. Meaning that he who holds the higher rank holds the ultimate decision making ability regardless of who is most qualified. Granted this is no different from any other job in any market, but serving on the enlisted side increases the amount of bosses who can wield such a hammer. Additionally, the officer side of the military will provide much better compensation and post military prospects.

So wait. You have a Masters degree and you weren't already scheduled to go OCS from the get-go? Damn, your recruiter sold you short.

I chose to not go the OCS route to gain experience as being enlisted first.

Also, there was so student loan repayment incentive for OCS and that was something I was aiming for.

I'll say this now, because I had the same thought when I went in, getting experience in the boots of the troops first. Set a deadline for yourself. That you will apply for OCS by this date, or this point in your life. Whatever makes sense for you personally. And make it sooner than later. Otherwise, you'll start to find every excuse not to hop the fence.
