Do I pay out of pocket for new uniforms when I get in the army as prior service or do I get an allowance or something. Just trying to plan ahead

If you stay enlisted the Army will issue you everything you need at no cost. If you go active you will get a uniform allowance as well.

I got out but I'm working on getting back in on active duty from the marines. Would I be issued them or allowance?

I think it depends how long you were out. I was active duty, got out, joined the reserves and went back active duty and was issued new uniforms. I did have to go back through reception for shots etc however we weren’t with the “initial entry” Soldiers. This was also 22 years ago, so it may have changed since then.

SSG Jennifer Cole - It is about the uniform! If it wasn't for the uniform, you wouldn't have TA!

You will get all new stuff, unless of course they run out. Then you will have to buy your own stuff.

I came back in the army two years ago and they gave me a full initial issue when I got to my assignment
