How hard is it to get a waiver (can't pass APFT, possible chapter case) to transition from USAR to AD Army?

Scenario: 4 yrs actuve duty Marines, got out joined USAR, went to college and doesn’t like it, wants to go back on Active Duty RA. Been a couch potato and can’t pass APFT. Reserves will probably chapter him out. Can he go to a recruiter and still join RA? If so, how hard is it to get a waiver?

CW3 (Join to see) Ma'am, As a Marine he knows the steps to get back in shape. He needs to get back in shape where he can pass the APFT, and then go to a recruiter. If he refuses to get off the couch and work his tail off, no military career.

If the recruiter will take him, he has to fill out a release and send it up the chain of command I believe the first 1 star can sign it. But if he is in that bad of shape not sure a recruiter will touch him.

Thank you for your response. He has been training hard this week and just might pass. If not he needs to find a different path in life.

DAMN hard since he can't cut the mustard in the current place. Why should the AD waste money on him if he is getting canned from the USAR for Christ's sake?

Thank you for your response. I understand your position. I feel the same way, just was asking for a friend.
