No I don't need it Georgeann Carter since I have a disabled veterans ID card and a retired Army ID card I don't need the veterans ID card.
Those veterans that live in Virginia who are not eligible for a VA disabled ID card or retired military ID card can request one for the DMV,
The card is available from the DMV for a nominal fee. Veterans need to be honorably discharged and hold an unexpired Virginia commercial driver's license, driver's license, learner's permit or DMV-issued ID card. Have served either (1) in the active U. S. Armed Forces or (2) for more than 180 days in the Virginia National Guard or U. S. Reserves.

Need it- well many folks in business demand to see a VA Card or a DD-214, regardless what is on your drivers license. So it surely will help with applying for discounts. I have always found that something military helps with routine traffic stops as well.

MAJ Ken Landgren - A very good idea. A unrecognized benefit of military service.

I could use some of that luck for traffic stops. I got pulled over for the first time last year on July 4th for an illegal turn and the cop didn't give two shits about my veterans plates or the fact there was nobody else on the road except us. it was a lousy independence day and my insurance premium has tripled since. I ride the bus now.

I haven't needed a Military I.D, although I STILL have my old military ID from when I was active duty, you know those old ones, the green ones that you show horizontally.. I have an EGA sticker on the back window of my truck though, and while that has gotten me out of a few pullovers. It has also gotten me into a few confrontations from other veterans who try to grill me on my military service. Those times have been the only times I have ever actually had to pull it out. Like I am lying about my service for a better parking spot or some other ridiculous little benefit.

I haven't even thought of doing it, it's marked on my drivers license and I have my I D card from the government.
