Or in general, while being in the army what's the best way to secure my important documents (birth certificate, social security card, enlistment contract, etc.)

A safe deposit box in a local bank would be another option. While deployed, I would have those stored with family rather than packed away in your household goods. Less risk of something happening to them and they'll be at least semi-accessible in an emergency.

CPL (Join to see) - Did you check iPerms, local MEPS, and recruiting center for possible copies?

CPL (Join to see) - For future reference, make a GOOD (high quality/resolution) electronic scan of all of the important documents. The Soldier support center will take those 99% of the time.

I did check iperms, there's nothing in there at all. Can I check my local meps here in Kentucky if my meps processing was in NC?

CPL (Join to see) - It can't hurt to ask. Don't count out the recruiting station, though. Ask someone else, take names, and track your contacts and progress. No one will (should?) care about this more than you. Use RP as a resource, but a major lesson better learned the easy way is to always double-tap when you feel it necessary.

I would also recommend you have a digital back up that you can keep on a secured thumb drive. I have one and I love it. I have redundant back ups so if one gets lost, not to worry you have another and the lost one is under secured password.
