My husband and I were sitting at the doctor's office today and I was reading a list of some of the charges that the doctor's office could charge, Cancellation Fee (If not cancelled 48 hours prior to appointment) $50.00, No Show Fee, $50.00 and I thought we should be able to charge the doctor for every extra hour past our appointment that we have to sit there and wait. Why is it that their time is valuable but ours is not?

If a doctor's office can't see me within 15 minutes of my appointment time, I almost always leave. In fact, I did that earlier this morning. They can't bill you a cancellation fee because you didn't cancel the appointment. You were actually there and they didn't see you at your appointment time. They also can't bill you a no-show fee if you actually did show up.
Make sure you have options though, because they could retaliate by not scheduling another appointment.

GySgt John Olson - Thank you for your unsolicited advice. I'm well aware of my health needs.
Also, I know how to act appropriately as a patient. You see, we also get a say in the patient-provider relationship. I don't subscribe to the common provider attitude of "You get here early, I'll see you late, and you'll accept it because I'm the provider and you don't know what's going on with my other patients". You aren't cooperating when you act as you indicate.
My time is just as important to me as your time is important to you.

SPC Diana D. Once I had an appt at 3:30. I finally was seen by the nurse and was placed in the exam room about 4:45. I could hear people leaving and saying their byes and about 5:15 there was noting but silence. So I walked out of the exam room to a darken hallway and no one in sight. I saw a light under the Doctor’s office door, I knocked on the door and entered. He was on the phone with his feet on his desk. He was very surprised to see me. I told him I had been forgotten. I advised that he should not bill me for the office visit and walked out. The outer office door was key locked so he had to let me out. He was very embarrassed and apologetic as he let me out the door I told him there was no need to reschedule my appointment. Changed doctors! Let your feet do the talking.

Thank you for a very good point, it's like when they don't add salt in an item, and they charge you more for not putting in the salt.
