My unit is scheduled to deploy in a few months, and we have not gotten orders to deploy. What is the potential for a cancelled deployment?

Just accept that you're going. Your orders have been sitting in the S-1's mailbox for two months now ;o)

One deployment I received orders the day I flew. S1 left me off the list, and it took until the day of the flight for them to get their head out of their fourth point of contact and correct their list and generate orders. All others I had them two or three weeks in advance, but we knew we were going a year out. If your leadership says you are going, prepare as if you are. There's no harm in having your affairs in order and your TA-50 packed.

Units deploying as units will publish group orders right before the deployment. The only thing that will cancel the unit deployment is if the COCOM that requested the capability cancels the request for for forces (RFF) through the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Your unit's deployment orders will be a blanket order with the manifest with your name on it attached. This is why it happpens late, they use the flight manifests.
There is a huge domino effect when cancelling a deployment of a unit. Depending on which COCOM you are deploying to will dictate equipment you take, what you fall in on, and other factors like regional items (mosquito nets vs snow shoes).

If you need something (like notifying employers, child care etc) your unit can write a memo for you indicating that you will be deployed and the orders have not been published as yet.

my employer is requesting a real order to deploy but the unit hasn't received the orders yet. We have less than a month before we get fully activated

SPC (Join to see) - if you are under a month from mobilizing, I would recommend making that known to your unit. I have not deployed with a RC unit. You might be able to call the S1/G1, explain your situation, and see if they can give you a copy of the blanket orders and have them write a memo that states that you are deploying with the unit on the orders.

LTC, that's why I specified Guard/Reserve. It's entirely common for platoon level soldiers to not get orders until the week or day of. Infuriating, but common.
Best you can do for your employer is tell them the reality of what's up.
