This is for those that are already US Citizens and have been in several years. Has there been anything new in the last two months or so? Last I heard you could get a security clearance once you re-enlisted but the background check might take over a year (10 year history?).

There's a memo came out on June 21, 2017 saying that all MAVNIs can apply for security clearance in their first contract.
I heard the same too regarding security clearance, it will take a year at least. As I saw the news that 700,000 employees across DoD have been waiting to get their clearance so I'm praying they will process faster.

Not sure about the if you have to wait to get a clearance. I do know that it can take over a year to get a clearance issued. First thing is to make sure you are completely honest on your application and don't have any bad credit issues. If you're going for a Secret Clearance you only have to go back 7 years. A TS requires you go back 10.

Thanks! I was asking for someone. They had to do the 10 years for the MAVNI/US Citizenship two years ago but were told a few months ago they would need to re-do the 10 year one to get the lowest level of clearance. They were planning on re-enlisting and went to BSEP last year and got fantastic scores to change a job. I guess the new job needs the clearance and has a one year AIT. They probably won't do it now as the clearance takes so long.
