It was written in 1955 by LTC Stephen H. White, former editor of Infantry Magazine. The poem is an adaptation of a similar poem titled “I am the Guard”, the original manuscript was discovered by LTC White in the archives of the Information Section of the National Guard Bureau in Washington. Unfortunately the author of the original is unknown.

The infantry version was first published in the July 1956 issue of Infantry Magazine. It was later revised to its present form by LTC White, assisted by COL Francis X Bradley and SPC Howard Webber. After revision of the text, the art work surrounding the poem was added by SPC Joseph Giordano. In July 1959, the new version along with its illustrative border was published on the back cover of the July-September issue of Infantry Magazine.

I wasn't even aware there was an infantryman's creed. If you are an 11B you should go to RLC,l and focus on the Ranger creed.

SFC Baumgartner, I'm pretty sure you have heard of it if you hang around a bunch of ground pounders. The reoccurring lines: I am the infantry! follow me! is used in a few cadences and infantry officers love to recite parts of the creed during ceremonies and speeches. Usually when you hear a speech start with valley forge and the delaware, its probably going to be a full recital of the creed. At that point its going to be a long day of standing in formation with the sun in your eye.

If you haven’t heard of the Infantry Creed, you’re a POG! You have to know that like your General Orders in Basic

Why is a Cav Scout presume to know what the Infantry should or shouldn't do?

SSG (Join to see) - Because I have spent time as a 19D in an Infantry BDE Combat team for 12 out of my 16 years in the Army. I know for a fact that completing Ranger School is the best thing for carreer advancement in the Infantry. If you know of a better way I am listening.
