September 11, 2001 was a day of infamy for this nation IMHO. It was peaceful and clear for most people in this nation on that day. For those on the planes that were hurtling towards buildings and those inside the World Trade Center it was a day of abject terror.
Hopefully as time passes, we will remember the days when September 11 was just another day of late summer

On September 11, 2001 I was supposed to go to the Pentagon for an informal meeting with several other soldiers and DA civilians. I was at home and it was a beautiful morning. I was reading the Bible an praying. I learned of the attack of the World Trade Center towers by phone call and then I was told about the attack on the Pentagon. I was told I could not get to the Pentagon because it was prohibited.
Later I learned some neighbors of a couple from our church were on the plane that hit the Pentagon. They were supposed to leaving for an anniversary trip and were killed instantly.
I discussed the situation with my wife and then I volunteered to be recalled to active duty.

I was conducting a class in property law at work when informed of the first strike.
I called a break and we adjourned to a room with a TV tuned to CNN.
A few minutes later the second plane struck and I immediately understood what was happening and who was likely behind it. I called my wife and told her to start getting mentally prepared for me to volunteer to come out of retirement and volunteer for active duty. Being the good Army wife she is, she said, "I understand."
My attempts to come out of retirement after 5 years were met with a 'stone wall' as I was told, "we need Majors and below." It wasn't until 5 years later I was offered an ROTC assignment in California; not my cup of tea. I wanted a battalion and I wanted to fight but those assignments were reserved for others.
I've ridden out this war at home, sending a son and a daughter who have served honorably and with distinction. In the meantime, I completed my seminary work where I received a M-Div and was invited to serve on the staff as an instructor and curriculum coordinator - something I loved doing for eight years. It is always interesting how things work out when God is in charge of your life.
Thanks for the post, my friend!

Woke up with my patrol partner calling on the phone frantically trying to get me to turn on the tv. I had just returned from New York two days before. We had visited my wife's family on Kermit St. in Brooklyn. I sat shocked at the live feed. My wife and I were in bed, and I was yelling at my wife and patrol partner that I can see another plane way too low. I thought it's was going for Tetoboro Airport but it banked hard and my heart sank. I had a life altering moment as it struck the tower. I have nothing but hatred for those Mother F****rs.

I was working- actually working vouchers for a rotation we had coming back and briefing some leaving. Little did I know I would be leaving about 20 days later. This was early in the Guard/Reserve deployments and we were required to rotate before we hit 30 days. Had no idea what we were in for and what would come. Our OPs Tempo is still very high and maintaining that pace for 16 years and no end in sight....
