First thing, take a 45 minutes shower, because I could. Next, walk barefoot in my own home - again, because I could. Cuddling with the dogs was always a big thing too. The rest is only for my wife and I to know...

When I was getting ready for retirement, I lost a lot of sleep. I would wake up, and go sit on the couch worrying. My dog, who used to sleep in my daughter's bed, would get up and come sit on the couch with me. He is the ONLY one that knew exactly what was on my mind at that point.
When my Mom died, we spent a week with Dad, we had to leave the dogs home. After a week, all I wanted to do was go home, and cry on my dog's shoulder. Mission was accomplished and he sat there and took it for about 20 minutes.

On my last deployment I took the wife to Fiji and sat in the jungle over looking the beach for 5 days. One of those days I played golf in the rain, the locals looked at me as if I was crazy, I know I am not crazy because I put my clubs down during the lightning.
