Your Stars and Stripes t-shirt technically violates the U.S. Flag Code. How aware are you of the contents of 4 USC 8? Have you any thoughts?

Considering the flag code is one the only laws we have that has no criminal penalties associated with it (SCOTUS struck that part down), I am not going to give it much thought at all. The code is a good guide but that's all it is.

and what do we do with those flag t-shirts and shorts when they don't fit or are worn out? Are they retired or thrown out?
I have a flag etiquette book from the 50's, the differences are shocking. I don't believe that patriotism has skyrocketed, I believe that people find it easier to wear a flag like a ribbon or bracelet to show they care.

Any current reiteration of the Flag Code does not affect my actions! I simply do my best to respect the flag and to display it as appropriate.
“FLAG” shirts are cool. Just not for members of my age group with cognitive abilities.
