What is the process, and how difficult is it, to get a waiver to reenlist with an RE-3?

Previously joined, and was discharged, from the Army. I finished basic but did not technically finish AIt for 68W. I MEB'd out. Now, I'd like to try and reenlist. My DD214 code is a 3 which means I would need a waiver. I was wondering if I could get some insight on the difficulties on getting the waiver and what the process would be like.

Patricia Sanders I have been dealing w/ a similar situation for 17 years. I was discharged for what was diagnosed as migraines at my duty station. I was given a 3 code, as well. These migraines turned out to be sinus headaches & i have no recurrences in the last 17 years.
I am on my 3rd recruiter, and she is AWESOME. The trick is getting ALL of you documentation regarding the discharge & any following appointments regarding that diagnosis since. Then you need to find a recruiter that will fight for you to get back in.

Best of luck to you Roberts!
Right now just trying to get some info in. My fiance doesn't under why I'd want to, but he's at least willing to listen. Maybe if I can get the info together, he'll come around.
From other posts and forums I found, finding the right recruiter seems to be the first step.

Patricia Sanders - that is the MOST crucial part. If the recruiter isn't willing to put the time in for you, then you'll end up bouncing around in limbo. The first 2 I had disappeared at the first sign of difficulty.

Do you think it would be possible to join the Marine Corps after having to go through a hardship discharge from the Army 3 years ago?? Re code 3. Thanks

Good luck! I am lucky enough to have found a recruiter that was willing to work with me from both Army and Navy. I don't know which way I'll go but I'm leaning towards Navy and I have a RE-3 code as well.

I am unsure I have signed that. I do not think that I have. The last time I met my recruiter was August. I didn't do any finger prints thing either. I go home for spring break the first week of March so hopefully I'll meet and talk with my navy recruiter then. SGT Eric Davis

@pvt Angelo Why are you talking to a recruiter closer to your location now?
Also with an RECODE 3 it would be easier for the Army to waiver you then you switch over to another Branch!

I am talking to a recruiter that is 3 hours away from me. The recruiter is located where my parents reside so when I'm home for college, I can meet with him.
I'm more interested in joining the Navy. Switching to another branch isn't guaranteed. SGT Eric Davis

Ok I understand you more interested in switching yon the navy but with an recode it’s easier to get a waiver with the branch you was in than trying to get into another branch but oh well!!
3 hours is still to far you can’t find another closer.
Also any recruiter will tell you it will be easier to get into the service you was in before with a recode 3 than to switch
Well good luck

More details; went holdover the last week of AIT. Regret not sticking it out, but I was young and dumb. I know I need to retake the ASVAB. Am I restricted to certain MOS's?

Please excuse my vagueness. I meant my AIT was 16 weeks.
I wasn't sure if that counted in my 180 day period.

Prior to you seeing the Recruiter you need documentation that proves what ever the reason you received the RE-3 code is no longer an issue and you are medically cleared. It is not up to the recruiter to prove that you can enlist that is your job. You are the applicant. If you want it you will get it.
