I think you said it yourself ... don't make any excuses, don't blame anyone else, own up to your mistake, and have a corrective plan of action to better yourself.

Nobody's perfect ... a man's true character shines when he is in difficult times.

Not wanting to sound like a smart ass, but quit doing the crap that got you the Article 15 goes a long way. As company commander, I didn't usually hammer a guy IF it were his first time in front of me and if his immediate supervisors thought he was worth a damn. Tell the CO that you screwed up and won't do it again, then don't do it anymore. Pretty simple.
The guys that had trouble are the ones that didn't learn and kept doing the same stupid things over and over.

This must have changed then. As it used to be what we called a "Company grade" article 15 was one that took no pay or rank and couldn't be in your permanent file. One that took pay or rank was a "Battalion grade" and was still left at Battalion level and not in your permanent file. But a 3rd could remain in your file. I had three, the first was thrown out due to the NCO's negligence and not following policy, basically it was his fault not mine. The second was an oral reprimand due to the Guard duty NCO not checking on me and I passed out on guard duty due to heat exhaustion, but the Commander was a huge prick and gave anyone an Article 15 that wasn't alert on guard duty no matter the situation. The 3rd was legit, I punched an NCO who deserved it. He was a punk E5 that could hold a beat to call cadence and wanted to make a big deal out of me not "filling in a hole in the formation" after me calling cadence for 2 miles of our 5 mile morning run. After letting him know I had to recover and catch my breath a bit I could fill the hole, he insisted on being an ass and ended up calling me a son of a bitch, at which point I told him never to call my mother a bitch again and busted 3 teeth out of his mouth. I got 15/15 for that one because the Platoon 1LT heard the whole thing. So I spoke from experience. None of those went anywhere, even though the 3rd one might have been able to.

SPC Marvin Darling - you are thinking of a counseling statement. Art. 15s became a part of your 201 file. The only exception is an Article 15 a Soldier receives in Basic Training. Other than that, it goes in your record.

CH (MAJ) Tom Conner - Not in the Army. E-4 and below, any type of Article 15 stays local, then is taken out of the soldiers file and destroyed after two years or when the soldier PCS's. E-5's and above, it becomes part of your personnel file, either on the Restricted or Performance Fiche, according to the will of the Commander. The only exception being that if the Soldier already has an Article 15 as an E-5 or above, any additional ones will show on the performance fiche.
It's one of the smarter things the Army does, allows the junior enlisted to screw up without having it follow them their whole career. I know that all serviced don't treat the results the same, but they should. -

SPC Marvin Darling - There are actually three levels of an Article 15, Summary, Company and Field Grade, depending on the level that punishment is executed. I've never been in a unit that did Summary Article 15's, which is initiated by any officer in charge of a platoon or section. That is local file only, restrictions to quarters and extra duty only. Company Grade is done by the Company Commander, I could take a weeks pay, one rank (depending if that rank was in my promotion authority, E-4 and below ), and 14 days restriction and extra duty. At this level, the stuff I posted before about rank goes into effect. Field Grade can get you 60 days restriction, 45 days extra duty, cost you 1/2 months pay and a grade in rank, more than one grade if you are E-4 and below.

Best advice (already given in this string) is quit doing the stuff that got you in trouble in the first place. If you need professional help to get rid of a bad habit, seek it now before you go see the Commander. Also, talk with a lawyer. Be very careful of requesting a Court Martial in lieu of the NJP. Unless you are doing so on advice of counsel, this is probably a poor decision. Be respectful and contrite. Accept the punishment like a Soldier.
