I was in OSUT, Finishing up basic training. I was at Ft Sill OK getting ready to go into AIT phase for 13B, light towed Artillery (M102). I was 18 at the time just months out of High School. The Drills were mad cause they knew if war came, they were stuck. We trainees wondered if we'd go if war came. If get letters from kids I went to school with asking if I was going, I replied I didnt know but we all soon got our answer. I was saying to myself at the time, I want this to happen, to participate and show home what this awkward quiet kid could do while they partied and went to college.
The 82nd Got to Saudi before anyone else moved, speed bumps (Aug 7th I believe).
I graduated OSUT Sept 90, Airborne Oct 90, Got to the 82nd ABN Oct 90. Arrived at my Battery (C 1/319 AFAR, 82ND ABD) Nov 26 90, Ft Champion Main, Saudi Arabia, for Desert Sheild and Participated in the Main Show in February. Got back to Bragg April 2 1991. Spent my 19th Birthday in Iraq.
The whole timeframe remains etched in my mind and I pass the stories when asked by my kids.

I was at home in Fayetteville, NC with my family preparing for DRF-1 Inspections and preparing to sign in off of Block Leave. My unit was scheduled to begin DRF-1 on the following Monday. My cousin that was in the Air Force was visiting. I called the Bn Staff Duty NCO to check in, my cousin called his base and was told to get back as quickly as possible. Helped my cousin pack up his car and got him on the road. The Monday following the battalion signed in from Block Leave and had the normal DRF-1 preparatory activities with one major difference, we had radios and TV's tuned to the news. That evening we were released to go home, that night at midnight we were alerted, a couple of days later we were on the ground in Saudi Arabia and became the "Line in the Sand". The 2nd Brigade/325th AIR, 82nd Airborne Division.

Tech Control Leading Petty Officer, Chief of Naval Operations Worldwide Military Command and Control Systems and Master at Arms to Chief of Staff, Commander Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Washington, DC Awaiting Orders to USS California CGN-36 in Dry Dock 5 Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for Reactor Core Overhaul (RCOH). When all was said and Done I went to USS Arkansas CGN-41 TAD for Desert Storm and I was Ship's Company USS Arkansas CGN-41 for Desert Strike in 1996. Never one to miss a Good Party.

I was in Germany in the 4th 66th Armor. I was in HHC and working on D company Abrams tanks. We deployed to Iraq on Dec 23 1990. Left there at the end of May 1991.

I was 10... I remember watching both coverage on CNN and switching back to Nickelodeon.... I didn't really understand what was going on and thought it looked pretty boring at the time.... I also remember thinking those old "chocolate chip" uniforms were really ugly...

I was at my parents' home in Virginia on leave from Ft. Campbell. I was watching the evening news with my Dad when some retired general started wargaming the future battle. My Mom got upset when the general said that the 101st Airborne would be used as a "trip wire" to slow down the "massive" Iraqi armor forces pushing south. I got a good chuckle out of that until I got a call from the Bn staff duty officer telling me that "all leaves were cancelled and all Soldiers were to return to base for further orders. A few weeks later, we landed in Dhaharan, Saudi Arabia. And the rest is history! !!
