Dealing with people like that is because way to many people going into WALMART abuse the system and its really just a doctor order and some $$ to get a plate or placard. What you are dealing with is perception from those who see people abuse it either by parking in handicap when the handicap is not with them, or fully functioning folks who have the tags. From your earlier post I assume you have had a spinal injury and that makes for a very difficult walk from the parking lot. You deserve the provided service. I am not sure why people feel they have to judge folks as not all handicaps have to have a wheel chair like my daughter, but I am only perturbed myself when with my daughter and I have to wait for an hour to park in the expended ramp space to get her out of the vehicle once the fully capable get to their car with 30 bags of groceries.

As for handling the folks, you are a DAV, until either you are 100% recovered or able to fully function normally, just ignore the folks. Don't tempt yourself with sign language or things, acknowledge with a smile, and drive on.

Louisana and Texas both have disabled vetern plates anyone that is deemed 50-60% physically disabled are authorized use of these plates they do not need handicap placecards just the disabled plate to park in handicap spots as for looks and comments I only use them on days that it's defecult to move I usually try to stay at home on those days but sometimes things need to be done. when people say you can't park there all I do is say check my plates and walk off, if they continue harassing me I ask them if they are my Dr when they say no I tell them to F**k off and mind your own business and so far that's as far as it goes

I have a unique situation where I am a veteran and disabled yet not a disabled veteran. I will probably fight the VA for disability until the day I die. So at this point I cannot get the plates that you speak of, I hope to have them one day. I'm glad that you do.

CPL Beth Allsop - I also was deemed to not be disabled due to military service. They actually discharged me on a medical retirement [from the Air National Guard] but worded as a normal 20 year retirement. I actually was quite close, over 19 1/2 good retirement years, so I agreed to go ahead and retire a little early. The unit allowed me to keep drilling after my back went bad in 2008 and discharged me 4 years later. It had been a very bumpy ride with me progressing well with physical therapy but I never again could pass the fit test.

Get and or display a handicap placard or get the handicap tag for your vehicle. If you cant get one of then then you are not to be parking in a handicap parking spot.

There are some people who have the handicap placard but because they don't "look" handicapped people think they are faking it or it's not their handicap placard. There are a lot of disabilities you can't see. People for MS for example - you can't see that because it's pretty much internal. Or people with kidney disease. You don't know they have anything wrong because it doesn't really show up on the outside. No one would know my daughter has no kidneys until they saw her catheter under shirt. She looks like any other two year old.

Just because someone doesn't "look" handicapped doesn't mean they aren't. I honestly don't care who parks in the handicap spot. I don't know what medical condition they have and I don't need to park there so oh well. If they're faking it then karma can get them later. I definitely won't go out of my way to harass someone who doesn't appear handicapped to me.

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - I get what you are saying that MP in me comes out in this one. I don't care what is with the person I just want to see a placard from the state and or post to park in handicap. That is what I do check to make sure that people are doing the right thing.
