What is the quality of life like for someone working as a truck driver in the Air Force?

Im very close to getting back in the military going from the Army to the AF I was medically discharged but it wasn't anything too bad so I'm wavering back in. My main question is how's the quality of life I've pretty much chosen the same job (Vehicle operations) in the army is 88m just some insight would be nice before I sign everything again.

To start with, most of our war fighting capabilities require about 2 miles of 6' deep reinforced concrete, so the AF isn't going to just throw a few tents on the ground and call it a base. For the most part we operate out of permanent structures, and I think that this is where most get their impressions of the AF. If you have hardened structures, why sleep and serve meals out of a tent?
Promotions don't come as easy in the AF as they do in the Navy & Army, so there are financial aspects that should be considered, although to make E-9 is roughly the same in all services.
You'll work for/with great & crappy people, I'm sure that the other services have their share of both. Like any other job, you get what you put in to it. Good luck and AIM HIGH!

Well depends on Rate all my AF friends that are med techs are now e-5 despite me still being e-3 so not all Navy rank up fast. Still salty about our quotas

HN (Join to see) - Although we only compete against those in our specific AFSC (what you call Rate), the promotion rate is uniform across the board to all jobs. There are few exceptions, if the promotion rate is 21% but there are only two eligible and competing for a stripe, one will get promoted (50% promotion rate)

Good luck with the Air Force. Trying to get into the AF as a Prior Service from a different branch is rather difficult. I tried multiple times and I ended up BACK in the Army.

Yeah I'm about 89% of the way through the waiver is at command but since it wasn't a serious issue my recruiter is basically saying I'll get in. But it did take some time to even get to this step lol a lot of patience and calling with no response

I have a friend in my current Reserve unit (we're 88Ms too), who was prior service Active Duty Air Force, and he loved it. He mostly confirmed a lot of the stereotypes regarding the cushy life in the Air Force, but take that with a grain of salt...experiences may vary.

My Dad used to always go on and on about how much cushier life was in the Air Force until one day I just told him, "Yeah, but you are all a bunch of **ing pussies!" We never had that conversation again after that fly-swatter remark. Just today I had another Navy guy talking about how we Marines are the Department of the Navy. My smack-down response is, "Yeah, the men's department!" That one always gets em.

Having been in the Army for several years, I went Chanute AFB as the Army liaison. When I went into their dining facility I was amazed. All the years eating things that would make a billy goat puke, and they got salad bars, fast food to order, pasta dishes, several meat varieties etc, etc. I never wanted to leave. When the flag came down, work day was over. Actually felt cheated making the same money, but working twice the hours.
