Currently the Air Force Reserve uses certain processes that may be considered antiquated and/or out-of-step with the active component or regular Air Force (RegAF). The idea for this thread is start a discussion among military professionals to help generate some ideas, and possibly a way ahead. Some process development may already be in progress, so any updates you can provide from the field will help direct the conversation into a productive and realistic direction. So, put on your thinking caps here folks, and let's see if we can generate some outstanding ideas... thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

Colonel, my first thought was "what leave?" - the only time I have dealt with actually using leave was post-deployment. Any other leave I have accrued I have lost or sold back because we do not extend orders just so we can take the leave.

My second thought is not every process in use by the regular component can or should be pushed to the part-time forces. So, maybe LeaveWeb would be useful, but I think we first have to ask what makes sense from a citizen airmen perspective. After collecting the criteria if the regular component solution would fit than great - if not we should look for something else as we are fundamentally different.

I am not familiar with LeaveWeb, but if it reduces the admin burden on the individual, can be processed remotely, and simplifies the process - it is worth further discussion.

My understanding is that this is coming, at least I just had to create an account last week.

I think it is a good thing. I have honestly been amazed that for such a critical component of compensation that we have been effectively in caves banging rocks together. My civilian employer has had online leave approval and tracking since at least 1999 (I think earlier, but I know they had it as of my start date).

But it will end certain practices that people have relied on to game the system. Two that come to mind immediately. The "leave form in the in box that gets shredded if the guy shows up for work without injuries." (Yes, I know "never happens") The other is the guy who never takes leave, but is always on pass, but OMG!1! has use/lose coming up. I am fine with both of those going away, as I think they are fundamentally dishonest ways of doing business. (NOTE: no issue with passes, used appropriately. Big issue with abuse.)
