What are your feelings on this? From what I've seen, it has quite a few Service Members questioning whether or not they should stay in. I don't mean this to become a Red vs Blue discussion. Please stay professional.

http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/12/news/economy/military-pensions-budget/index.html

Military retirees: You betrayed us, Congress

Veterans who served their 20 years and retired from the military are outraged that Congress would take away what they earned serving in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm tired of seeing the Government try to whittle away at my retirement or benefits. I just want to retire and get all the benefits that I was promised when I signed up.

Honestly, I think they should be contractually obligated to uphold their promises. Any changes should only affect those who enlist AFTER the changes are made. And if they have a problem with that, we should sue them for breach of contract.

I joined the Army to help benefit myself and my family. I have worked hard during the 16 years that I have been in. I think that Congress should at least use the Grandfather Clause and let us keep our full retirement. I don't see why they would let something like this happen. There are a lot of Congress and Senate reps that don't know what reaching the 20 year mark means for us Soldiers. We work harder than ANY person in the world and get the least pay and benefits. We should at least get an option to get released from the military with a good seperation package. I been doing this military career since I was 17 and I hVe seen the military change in so many way for good and bad. I just hope that someone takes our side for once.

Exactly SSG Watson,
If you want to change the rules, it should only apply to those foolish enough to sign up knowing what the new rules are...

Concur. And they are really doing themselves (and the USA) a disservice to even touch military benefits at all, grandfathered or not. The benefits are a large part of the reason why civilians sign up as part of our all-volunteer forces.

I have an issue with Congress changing the "terms of the contract" after I met my obligation. It really is an issue of honor and Congress seems to have less and less of it every year as the percentage of members with any military service decreases. It's a sorry state of affairs.

I totally agree, Master Chief Kelly,

When I signed on the line and raised my right hand, I made promises to the Government and they made promises to me. If I keep my end of the bargain, but they renege on their end, then I should be able to take them to court for the difference...

It's disappointing that Congress attacks our retirement and leaves theirs alone. It's Big Brother syndrome. I think someone needs to get control of these appointed officials or in our next elections maybe they need some new ideas in Washington.

It is disappointing and remember people we have a say in November of next year. We have a LOT of them that are up for reelection and I say throw them out all of them and lets start over fresh.
