Looking at all the surrounding areas to the post and just wondering how many of you commute from Aberdeen? Is it a smart decision when you have two small children? What are the closest gates in the area? All comments are welcome but please message me for opsec purposes when referring to the gates, units, etc.

Highly feasible... in fact, I would HIGHLY recommend NOT living in Fayette'nam. Of my 14 years in the Army I have lived in Southern Pines (the town next to Aberdeen) for 11. The schools are much, MUCH better; the area is much, MUCH nicer; and crime is much, MUCH less. All you have to do is be able to handle the 35-50 minute commute dependent on where exactly you live.

As others have said, it's very feasible. I used to live in Aberdeen in 2006-2008. Back then the road(s) across the "Back 40" didn't have any traffic controls (lights or signs) so you could get across post quickly. From what I hear, there are now lights and signs that regulate traffic out there.

The Aberdeen/Southern Pines/Pinehurst area is beautiful, with lots of things to do, stores, restaurants, etc. Quite a nice place to live.

Aberdeen and the southern pines area are great. Lots of folks live out there and there is plenty of things to keep you busy and far away from Fayetteville!
