While they managed to leave town and hide out in Canada with more than $200,000, their attempts to burn down the town failed. Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Oct 19 at 2015 8:29 AM 2015-10-19T08:29:49-04:00 2015-10-19T08:29:49-04:00 LTC Private RallyPoint Member 1053596 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I know this even comes before the actual birth of the consitution, but the United States had existed technically since 1776 with the Declaration of Independance, so this in my opinion should have been the headline of the day.<br />British Surrender at Yorktown<br />Lord Cornwallis was "sick" that day and his second in command offered Cornwallis' sword to the Marquis de Lafayette who then directed him to Gen. Washington. Washington also parleyed this honor down to his second in command Gen.
