They should just hold the line, 0%, that is my opinion and it is not based upon my rank or my living conditions, trust me, but we all volunteered and any raise is a good raise in my opinion. The last decade has been more than generous to us all considering in 1987 when I joined my base pay did not even pay for my car payment and insurance.
The fact that Congress receives raises that if they are not voted on are automatic is criminal. Congress needs a pay freeze or even a cut to set an example of government in action. Another issue is single term retirement pay, while a service member has to do 20, well now 15, a single term in Washington gets you benefits for life, kind of odd how those laws are written.

If I was, then we surely would be restricting the borders and conducting a little isolationism for a spell. The handouts to countries who neglect our kindness and take advantage of us would have to fend for themselves for a while.

A little bit off topic here, but after reading the article, I find myself wondering WHY would they site, as an example, an E-3 with over three years of service? Does that seem a bit odd to anyone else out there?

I am going to take a guess and say that not every branch of service promotes as fast as the Army. Where it is automatic at 2 years to make E-4 in the Army, the Air Force doesn't run by the same rules. I don't know the exact dates, but their promotions are a lot slower I have learned working side by side with the Air Force.

SSG Jordan Gaudard , valid point. I do realize that the promotion systems are vastly different between the branches, but I still suspect that E3 over 3 is 'below the power curve' as an average. I would be interested in seeing the actual average pin on points for E4 for the various services if anyone happens to have that.

I agree, I would also like to see how many O-5 pin on at 12 years. That seems a little fast to me, but I don't pay much attention to Officer ranks.
Congress always seems to find a way to back us. They have elections to be worried about and don't want to be "that guy" who voted against giving service members better pay.

Personally, I'm tired of the talk of reducing our pay in order to increase readiness. What not bring some fiscal accountability to the supply program first? How many "briefings" have I attended over the years where everyone has full page color copies of the entire 30+ PowerPoint slides? Why is it necessary! When I attend the C&S every other week, I only take notes in my green book. If I attend someone else's briefing (like a G1/S1 synch) I print their slides 3-4 a page AND front to back! And that's only after I view them digitally and still need something for reference in the meeting. There is absolutely MILLIONS being wasted on paper and printer ink.
